The Wäller Tour Hohe Hahnscheid – Irmtraut is a devotional trail that has been awarded the Quality Trail label. The hike begins in Irmtraut and leads through beautiful forest to Hessenblick, where you can enjoy the sweeping views. You walk along a narrow path directly into the wild and romantic Holzbach Gorge and return via the panoramic platform of the St. Michael-Josef Chapel.

The Wäller Tour Watzenhahner Riesen – Weltersburg is a GeoRoute of historical significance that takes you to the impressive rock formations of the Westerwald basalt. The hike starts in Weltersburg and takes you over the Burgberg hill, past the Kranstein natural monument. The highlight is the impressive rock formation of the Watzenhahner Riesen, where nature has reclaimed a former industrial area.

Westerwald Trail For professional hikers over several days

The WesterwaldSteig is the region's premier hiking highlight: a 240 km long-distance hiking trail that covers the entire diversity of the Westerwald in 16 stages and leads from Herborn to Bad Hönningen on the Rhine.

Special information about hiking with dogs

Caution is advised at the Holzbach Gorge and on the challenging sections of the WesterwaldSteig trail, as the rocks and roots can be a challenge for clumsy or very large dogs. Please also note that dogs must be kept on a leash in nature reserves and always carry sufficient drinking water with you.
